This was the third SAFE House in the nation outside of California to become part of the network initiated by Susan Burton and A New Way of Life.

Our survivors are housed in a SAFE House, the first and only one of its kind in Ohio.

A SAFEHOUSE is a sanctuary, a home specifically for women who have endured incarceration. It is set up to function as a safe space, a stable—drug and alcohol-free—environment, where underlying issues of trauma and substance misuse may be addressed within a confidential, non-judgmental space and a support system of peers and professionals.

Personal Development Programs

  • COMMUNITY OUTREACH

By assuming new roles in the community, exposure to a new world looks very different from the angle of involvement. These new roles have a profound effect on one's reentry into society and force critical thinking.

She matters in her community and should do everything possible to better it. Although they say she gets a second chance, she must go out and seize the moment and grab the opportunity. This is her chance.

  • DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Everyone is expected to be dressed and prepared every morning for the daily devotion. Reading from a devotional, scripture, and journaling allows them to start their day together as sisters and discuss plans for the day.

Everyone is encouraged to read through inspirational meditation books and explain the meaning of the passage.

  • FAMILY DINNER

At least five days a week, the girls prepare a meal and eat dinner together—at the table.

This promotes a sense of belonging and acceptance. Everything from the day can be released, offering another opportunity to bond with each other.

It also encourages teamwork and functioning within a group, demonstrating the importance of every member, and the necessity of adhering to a schedule.

  • CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

Welcome Home SIS is proud to stand beside you and fight for injustices. We demand to be heard, going into the county jails armed with stacks of voter registrations backed by the ACLU to lobbying on Capitol Hill with Common Cause.

Whether we are protesting at a small town main street or rallying on the Supreme Court steps, there is no cause too small when it matters to you.

  • LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

As our organization grows, so do the opportunities. We pride ourselves on leadership development that creates careers and promotes from within.

The survivor is always the best candidate and the first choice when a position needs to be filled. Her skills and strengths are assessed continually, and she is consistently placed where she excels.
