3 steps ~ 31 days

CHALLENGE #1

LET’S DO IT!

The Proverbs 31 challenge is for all women who want to be transformed into the woman God intended them to be.

This first challenge is simple. Three “steps” every day for 31 days. Read it, self-affirmations, and time with God.

If you think the Proverbs 31 woman is out of reach or too perfect for modern times, this challenge is for you.

If you’re skeptical of the Bible and what God can do, this challenge is for you.

If you’re already perfect and compare yourself to the Proverbs 31 woman, jump in the arena, this challenge is for you- we need mentors!

Everyone is worthy and fully capable of completing this challenge. If you think otherwise, this challenge is definitely for you.

No matter your place in this journey called life, this challenge is for you.

You have nothing to lose but guilt, shame, and/or other issues or flaws that are weighing you down and obstructing you from living the abundant life God wants you to have.

God says: “Behold! I am about to do a new thing!”

Let’s be realistic

Proverbs 31 describes the perfect woman. She is up all night working to ensure a good product and income for her family, yet she is up again before daylight cooking breakfast for them. Does this woman ever sleep? More importantly, does she even exist?

Yes, she does exist, in every one of us. With God’s help, we could encompass all of these amazing traits and characteristics.

The Proverbs 31 woman has been referred to as the “Christian Barbie,” and according to Barbie in her first and only motion picture, Barbie is in every girl…. as is the Proverbs 31 woman. If society can put faith in a fictional “doll” that is not even a century old, we can surely put faith in our eternal Creator who has stood the test of time.

It is not about trying to reach an unattainable standard of perfection.

Verse 10 starts by telling us a woman like this is very rare and extremely hard to find.

A wife (woman) of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies (pearls, diamonds, jewels, etc).

Mom knows best

Let’s first acknowledge who is describing this “Proverbs 31 Woman”. It is a mother giving sound advice to her son, King Lemuel. She is describing (in great detail) the kind of woman she wants her son to marry, a woman who will ultimately take her place as the most important female in her son’s life.

No doubt King Lemuel’s mother has set the standards high for this woman, some may even argue that they are unrealistically high. But remember, she is essentially handing over the torch to another woman to care for her son and raise her grandchildren. Indeed, she is describing the perfect woman.

Though penned by a human, the Word of God is still the Word of God. It is God-inspired and God-breathed. It is always true, good, and will never fail us, ever. Moreover, it is the most (and only) elaborate description of a woman the Bible gives us.

Women are natural caregivers and nurturers, but the Proverbs 31 Woman is much more than a housewife. You do not have to be married or have children to participate in this challenge- just the desire to be transformed by God!

***Steps are in no particular order ***

Step 1: Straighten your crown!

Part of this challenge is recognizing our worth. We are royalty, daughters of a King most high!

The Proverbs 31 woman is confident. She works hard. She is trustworthy. She takes care of her family. Above all, she trusts God.

Look in the mirror (every day) and say three positive things to yourself (self-affirmations), starting with “ I am worthy.” Do this every day and start making a list. At the end of 31 days, you should have about a hundred but AT LEAST 31 DIFFERENT good things about yourself.

Be mindful of verse 30 when acknowledging your positive traits and characteristics. While feeling beautiful and confident enough to own it is awesome, our good looks are of little importance to the Lord.

Step 2: Read it!

Proverbs 31:10-31. We suggest a different translation every day. The YouVersion Bible app is a great resource.

Meditate on it. Ask for God’s guidance. Ask Him to help you in areas where you need to improve. He may reveal things you never knew.

Remember, we all have character flaws and no one is perfect, but we should all set our standards high and strive to be the best we can be.

Step 3:

Time with God!

You can use this time praying, reading His Word, or even while you are reading Proverbs!
